Ground covering plants are low perennials which spread widely. They form a thick blanket of leafs and often have beautiful flowers. Some grow higher than others. Low-growing ground covering perennials range from 5 to 15 cm, higher varieties can grow up to 40 cm in height when fully developed. The one thing they all have in common is that they cover the ground fully, due to their wide and creeping growing habit, especially when placed close to each other. A suitable perennial can be found for every part of the garden. Whether it is a shady or sunny area, dry or wet. There is a lot to choose in the variety of ground covering perennials. A lot of variation exists between types of decorative leafs and gorgeous inflorescence. Some stay green and some die in the winter, but grow back during spring. Ground covering perennials can be easily combined. A combination of different types can form a stunning border. Take matter of the surrounding circumstances the perennials are under when combining them. Circumstances like dry or wet soil, and sunny or shady areas. Besides perennials, also green staying ferns and ornamental grasses are suitable as ground covering plants.
