Feeling stressed? Add green to your garden! The stress-reducing effects of greenery will relax you completely. Use perennials to easily transform your garden into a green haven.

Surrounded by greenery & flowers

Green has a stress-reducing effect. That’s why it is a good idea to replace paving as much as possible with green perennials such as ferns, ornamental grasses and leafy plants like plantain lilies (Hosta) and wild ginger (Asarum). Complete the calming atmosphere with flowering perennials in soft pastel colours. Field flowers, such as daisies (Leucanthemum) and foxgloves (Digitalis), are also great additions to a relaxing garden.

Fluttering butterflies

Enjoy your green wellness garden all year round by combining many different plants with varying flowering times, colours, heights and textures. It looks nice and is good for biodiversity! Give biodiversity an extra boost by adding nectar-rich perennials such as purple loosestrife (Lythrum), yarrow (Achillea) and purpletop vervain (Verbena bonariensis). The latter is a short-lived perennial, so keep in mind that you will need to replace it after about two or three years. On the other hand, purpletop vervain blooms profusely and attracts butterflies. So soothing to watch!

Fragrance & Sound

Don’t forget about fragrant plants. They are indispensable in a wellness garden. Think about including the calming scent of lavender (Lavandula). Many plants used as kitchen herbs also have pleasant, beneficial scents, e.g. rosemary (Rosmarinus) and mint (Mentha). The relaxing sounds of nature, such as running water and gently rustling ornamental grass, complete your wellness experience.

Tips & inspiration

  • Create multiple seating areas in the garden so you can surround yourself with greenery throughout the day.
  • Also look at your garden from inside your home or home office. If you have not already done so, make sure you have a green view because even looking out on greenery has a stress-reducing effect.
  • Don’t have a garden? You can also use potted perennials to create a private green paradise on your balcony or roof terrace.
